Another week has gone by and Chaipel have been busy. We have been writing poetry on the theme of Cornish poet Charles Causley's I AM THE SONG. We have some incredible emotive sentences: I am the breeze that cools the Earth (Elsie), I am the personality that forms the mind (Joel) I am the fuel that ignites the flame (Aria) I am the ink that composes the word (Harry), I am the word that determines the sentence (Kora) to name but a few.
In Maths, the Y5s have been going back over key arithmetic skills such as long multiplication, division and have been introduced to the technical process of long division. Y6s are still on their travel project, looking at budgeting and identifying best value for money deals.
In our wider curriculum learning, Chaipel have been identifying the mining towns and villages in Cornwall and what types of mining they were famous for. In French, they have been identifying and ordering different foods and beverages and in swimming this week, Chaipel have been perfecting their underwater gliding. In Science, we have been investigating friction and for RE, we have been learning about values and what are import to us as both individuals and part of a wider community.
On Wednesday we had our Sports Day and it was a huge success. The Y6s were fab at organising and running the events and everybody gave their races 100%.
It's our Y6 Residential next week and we are really looking forward to it! Please make sure all medical forms are back in on Monday.
That's all from us so have a lovely weekend and see you all on Monday!

What an unforgettable day! On Friday, our school field came alive for Brunel Sports Day, filled with cheers, cheers, and even more cheers as pupils competed and supported one another brilliantly. Each child showed incredible sportsmanship-cheering on teammates, offering high-fives, and celebrating every effort. No matter the result, enthusiasm ruled, and the collective energy was nothing short of inspiring.
The classic egg and spoon race was met with giggles, squeals, and some surprisingly steady hands! The sack race had everyone hopping in unison, occasionally tumbling, but always picking themselves up with a big smile.
The highlight of the afternoon was undoubtedly the obstacle course-complete with coloured water and vibrant hurdles. With the crowd on their feet and a rainbow of splashes marking each runner, the atmosphere was electric.
The sprints were a display of raw determination. Children poured their full effort into each dash, faces flushed with focus and energy. Mid-race cheers echoed, urging runners to push on to the finish line.
After tallying all the points, Team Tintagel emerged victorious-well done! They earned their win through exceptional dedication and teamwork.

Some of this weeks learning:
This week Mrs Phillips has been assessing the children in
reading and maths. The children have been amazing and have tried their best.
Mrs Phillips and the other adults have been amazed at how much the children
have learnt this year and how well they have retained skills and knowledge.
Foundation you are simply amazing!
This week the children have also been exploring patterns and
repeated patterns in maths and they have been amazing at making their own
patterns.
They have also been observing different types of seashell
and drawing them, using their cutting skills to cut and make flying seagulls,
creating their own ocean picture then writing about it and so much more.
The children are continuing to progress and achieve so much,
and we are looking forward to the last three weeks of their foundation year!
Wishing you a wonderful weekend

This week we had our sports day. This year it was an all day event. It start in the morning with pupils taking part in different activities with their houses. Mr Watts led a football skills workshop; Mrs Flashman had children taking part in javelin and shot put; Mrs Charlesworth was getting children to do target practice with beanbags and I did some shooting and passing skills for netball. The Year 5 and 6s were incredible at working with the other children and supporting them. In particular Lexi, Holly and Leo stood out for the support and encouragement that they gave the younger children. In the afternoon, we went outside to practice the tug of war and to do some games. We finished the day with banner making ready for the evening.
When 5 pm rolled by, it was time to process up onto the field and take part in the race. Again, the Year 5 and 6 were great at encouraging the others in their team and supporting each other. It was a win last night for yellow team with green team being nominated for being the most sporting. Year 6 seems to enjoy the waiter race the most although there was a lot of water spilt by the end.
Next week, there will be no more swimming. Instead, six Year 6 children will be heading out on Monday to watch the cricket. We have play rehearsals at the end of the week ready for the performance the following week.

We have had a busy week exploring under the sea and finishing craft relating to this. The children have been exploring the under the sea tuft tray and making jellyfish.
We have enjoyed some sunny weather this week and have been making the most of this by practicing sports day on the field and exploring the nursery garden.
At story time we have enjoyed under the sea stories and the big children who are going to school soon enjoyed going into reception class to join them for a story before lunch.
The children have enjoyed carrying out different phonics activities including looking for initial sounds in the sand tray, going on a listening walk and blending sounds together to form words.
It was sports day on Wednesday and we were incredibly proud of the children for their great running. They all did a fab job.
We hope you all have a good weekend.
Julie and Sarah.

On Friday we had our Sports Day at Looe Primary. The children came to school dressed in their house colours Plaidy, Millendreath, Hannafore and Talland. We then took parts in lots of different activities to try and win as many points as we could for our team.
Our first activity was a circuit. We had to do hurdle jumps, throw a bean bag in a hoop, star jumps and then run back for the next person to start. Our next activity was a dress up relay, where we had a hat and we had to run to the next person and give them the hat. We found this very funny and trying to get the hat on and keep it on whilst running was challenging for some! Our last activity was a throwing activity. We had three different hoops and each hoop was worth a different amount of points. We then had to throw the bean bag in one of the hoops. We even made it more challenging at the end by moving the hoops further away.
Foundation / Year 1 made me so proud with their sportsmanship - especially on a very hot afternoon! They even managed to keep their energy for the races at the end of the day, I don't know how they did it! They were determined and responsible, showing two of our values to the rest of the school and the people that came to watch us.
I was so impressed with their attitude to sports day. Well done Plaidy, who were the winning team, but well done all of you for taking part.
Thank you.

It was another hot day
today when Class 2 held their long-anticipated Sports Day. It's lovely to see
the children supporting each other and cheering for their friends even if they
are on different teams.
The parents tug of war was
fantastic, not competitive at all.

What a wonderful week we’ve had in preschool!
The sunshine gave us the perfect opportunity to enjoy lots of outdoor play, including water fun and story time in the sun. The children loved relaxing with books outside, which was a great way to nurture our growing love for reading.
Phonics Fun
This week in phonics, we explored the sounds f (f-f-f flower) and e (e-e-e egg). The children really enjoyed practising these new sounds through games, songs, and hands-on activities.
Marvellous Maths
In maths, we’ve been focusing on counting objects from 1 to 5 and recognising numbers in any order. The children are gaining confidence every day and showing great progress with their number work!
Getting Ready for Reception
We’re beginning to think about our exciting move up to Reception in September. In book bags this week, you’ll find a helpful poster outlining some of the key skills we’re working towards to help your child feel confident and ready for the next step.
Sky Arts Week We were thrilled to take part in Sky Arts Week and had some very special visitors come to talk to us about their jobs:
Steph, a Speech and Language Therapist, showed us some amazing tools that help people communicate.
Chef Will, a Development Chef, shared what goes into creating new dishes—and answered lots of brilliant questions!
Dr. Katie spoke to us about what it takes to become a doctor and what it’s like to help people every day.
It was such an inspiring experience for the children—and staff too!
Here’s to another fun-filled week ahead! Come back next week to see what we have been up to.

After being rearranged twice due to the weather, it was almost too hot when Class 1 had their Sports Day! The children all did incredibly well and showed great sportsmanship and patience, especially with the pesky egg and spoon race. The Pre-schoolers race was also a delight to watch.

Our first 2 weeks of Summer Term
2 have already flown by, with lots of learning of places we can go in an aeroplane. We have looked at world maps and discussed
where some of us may have travelled to on holiday. We also thought about what we would need to
take with us for a sunny holiday and packed our own suitcase.
The children have really enjoyed
our airport role play corner with Pelynt Pre-School Airways flying to various
destinations!
We have also looked at what we
need to do at the airport before we get onto an aeroplane, with checking in
bags, then showing our passports and tickets.
We have watched some clips of what it is like to travel on an aeroplane and
how we would feel.
Last week the children took part
in our whole school sports day, they were all amazing in their races and even
if your child wasn't there on the day they have all really enjoyed all the
practices we have done on the field.
Thank you to all the parents that have been in
to see us for a parent consultation, it is a lovely way of catching up and
talking through your child's progress, achievements, and any concerns you may
have.
We always have an open-door policy where you can speak to any of the team at any time so even if you did not book a consultation, please do come and see us if you have any questions or concerns.
A reminder that our graduation celebration and end of year Teddy Bears Picnic is on Wednesday 16th July at 11.30am. Everyone is invited to come enjoy a picnic with your child. If you have a child
graduating but it's not their normal session, you can still bring them along
for 11.30am.
Letters will be coming out next week to confirm September sessions for parents of children returning in autumn term, and school will be sending out information for parents of those children transitioning and a parent welcome meeting with their teachers.
Lastly, as we have been experiencing some difficulties uploading the blog to our website, we will transition to doing a weekly update on to our class page on Seesaw from September. A reliable way to ensure all parents are receiving updates about our learning and any other news.
The Pre-School Team.

Sports Day Success
What a fantastic Sports Day we had!
A huge thank you to all the parents and families who joined us — it was lovely to see so many of you there, cheering on the children and enjoying a sunny picnic lunch together. Your support made the day feel extra special.
We were incredibly proud of the great sportsmanship shown by all the children. Whether they were running, jumping, throwing, or simply cheering their friends on, every child got involved and gave it their best. The smiles and laughter said it all!
A very special thank you goes to Mrs Andrew and Mr Twaite for all their hard work in organising a smooth, fun-filled day. It takes a lot of planning and preparation to make an event like this run so well, and we’re very grateful.
Well done to everyone who took part – we’re already looking forward to next year!
Special Visit from Captain Paul Thomas – Harbour Master
We were delighted to welcome Captain Paul Thomas, our local Harbour Master, to school on Friday for a special and interactive assembly.
Captain Thomas brought with him a variety of buoyancy aids and life jackets to demonstrate how they work, and to explain the important role they play in keeping people safe on the water. The children were fascinated to learn about the differences between the types of aids — and how each one is designed for different activities and conditions.
It was a brilliant hands-on session with lots of demonstrations, and as always, the children asked some fantastic and thoughtful questions. Captain Thomas was very impressed with their curiosity and enthusiasm!
At the end of the assembly, we were proud to present Captain Thomas with a handmade thank-you card from all of us, to show our appreciation for his generous support in funding this year’s watersports activities. It means so much to the children and gives them the chance to experience the water safely and confidently.
A big thank you to Captain Paul Thomas for an inspiring and informative visit!

We have had another lovely week in Foundation with lots of
wonderful exploring and learning.
Some of this weeks learning:
This week the children have been continuing to write
dictated or independent sentences about pictures from Julia Donaldson books.
This has really helped Mrs Phillips to see how far they have come with their
phonics and writing. The children are progressing so well and the adults in
class have been astounded by some of the writing.
In maths this week we have been exploring sharing and
grouping. As we have been learning to chant and sing our times tables for some
time now , this really helped with this unit of learning. Janet was blown away
with how well the children were grouping items in two’s yesterday!
In outdoor learning this week we completed a summer treasure
hunt, we found, red flowers, big sticks, bugs, blades of grass, but no frogs!!!
We have also been making jelly fish, completing beach
phonics activities, sharing carrots and frogs in a maths activity, writing
tricky words outside, making playdough beach pictures and so much more!
Today was sports day and what a lovely day it was…wow was it
hot! The children had a great first sports day and really enjoyed taking part
in all the activities.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend

Sky Arts' Week
We've had great fun looking into the future and focusing on our dream professions - everything from professional footballers to counsellors.
We enjoyed the guest speakers and well-done Year 3/4a for creating some great questions for them to answer!
On completion of our artwork, we peer assessed, commenting on the features, design, choice of colours, 3D detail and how we may be able to improve our artwork if we were to do it again.

Hello everyone!
It’s been a very sporty week in Penhallow this week. We managed a swimming session on Wednesday, The Bridge School Games on Thursday, and a sports day practice on Friday.
For The Bridge School Games, we competed in 5 different events, and recorded our scores, which will be compared with other bridge schools. We competed in events such as throwing, catching, balancing and collecting tennis balls. All events were tennis themed and we had great fun.
We have also been busy this week, writing a recount, based our experiences at The Polperro Festival. We were so proud of the children. First of all, for exemplary behaviour whilst watching the other performances, but most of all for performing so well in front of an audience. Some children stood in for others at the last minute, and we all worked as a team to do the best we could. Well done Penhallow! We hope you enjoyed it.
Have a lovely weekend!

Class 2 have been busy (yet again!) having oodles of fun learning and doing and creating.
In Literacy, we have begun drafting our persuasive letters and we have used some amazing vocabulary to persuade rockpool visitors to be more careful while enjoying our delicate habitats. In Maths, while Year 1s explore Fractions, year 2s continue their exploration of statistics. Beside this, our class "Morning Snack Shop" is running really well, with all the children "paying" for their snacks, with the help of Year 2 shopkeepers keeping track of payments.
In Geography, we have been able to locate the main bodies of water that surround the United Kingdom. We have also explored a variety of coasts and begun to identify distinguishing features of a coast.
In Science, we continued our investigation into the microhabitats in our forest school area. This week, we went on a mini beast hunt and made note of the different animals we could find in the many microhabitats in our amazing forest school space. We found tons of earthworms, slugs and snails. There were far too many ants and woodlice (or cheesy bugs as some of us like to call them) to count.
On Thursday, we also set up our next Science investigation . Years 1 and 2 have marked out a 'Square of Life' in a corner of the forest school area. We spend a peaceful afternoon sketching the many things we could see in the square. Our 5 minute sketching during Art lessons really helped us make some amazing variety of life drawings in our Science books. In the next few weeks, we will keep visiting our 'Square of Life' to make note of how it changes over time.
Please find below a gallery of images from last week's Music Lesson where the class worked with dot notations. Mrs Lane is so very impressed with the progress everyone has made in Music this term. Mrs Lane said, "We were introducing dot notation with 2 notes and they worked so well together. I can honestly say it was one of the most enjoyable afternoons I've had in school in a while!"

Another week has gone by already!
On Tuesday, we performed at the Polperro festival. The children were fantastic and did so well during our performance. Well done! You are all SUPERSTARS!
This week has been the Bridge School Games, so we have been very active exploring different Wimbledon inspired activities. We have also been practising for Sports Day, which we can’t wait for!
In English, we have been enjoying performance poetry and loved performing Michael Rosen’s ‘The Rhythm of Life’. We collaborated to write our own versions too, influenced by nature, the sea, even school! We will finish writing these next week and creating a short performance for our peers.
Congratulations to Amelia and Lowen J for being chosen as Landaviddy’s People of the Week.
Please ensure you bring in your PE and swimming kits next week.
We hope you have a lovely weekend!

What a lovely week we have had. Polperro Festival was a huge success, on Tuesday, and our performance was amazing! We had so much positive feedback from the general public, it made all the hard work in the run-up to the day worth while. Thank you to Hamish and Harry for stepping in at the last minute to cover roles and to Joel who had full control of the microphone as a very convincing Henry Tudor!
It has been Bridge School Games week and we have been busy taking part for our school. It was fun to try out all of the challenges and try to improve our scores to be the best we can be. Fingers crossed!
We enjoyed a trip to The Box for our Evolution, Adaptation and Inheritance workshop on Friday. The workshop organiser was blown away at how much we knew and we in turn learnt a lot about how mammoths and beetles have adapted and then gave use food for thought in how beetles may need to adapt in light of Climate Change.
Next week, Chaipel will be practising for our Sports Day on Wednesday (10am - 12pm) where we will be competing in our classes for our House Teams.
We have a Mufti Day
That's all from me so have a lovely weekend and see you all on Monday.
