On Thursday, Tregantle Class set off on an exciting outdoor journey to Tincombe Park-on foot! The children made a "walking bus," with older pupils leading the way and everyone striding together toward their destination.
Arriving at Tincombe Park, the children took part in a "Nature I Spy" game-scouting for woodland treasures like distinctive leaves, nests, or scattered feathers. Some classmates chose a brass rubbing activity, pressing paper and wax onto metal plaques to reveal intricate designs hidden in the landscape.
Others focused on finding living creatures and identifying birds by their calls. They listened closely, whispered guesses ("Is that a robin?"), and pinpointed feathered friends by ear. Meanwhile, each budding naturalist created detailed observational drawings of the bugs and beasts they found under logs and leaves.
One of the highlights of the day was learning about how essential bugs are. The children discovered that even the tiniest creature plays a vital role in nature-pollinating flowers, recycling nutrients, and keeping balance in the ecosystem.
After our explorations, we all sat together for a sunny picnic lunch. Sandwiches were eaten, laughs were shared, and everyone appreciated the warmth of the day.
All the children behaved brilliantly, displaying outstanding "Issy manners" throughout-kind, respectful, and enthusiastic from start to finish. Their energy, curiosity, and care for both each other and nature were truly impressive.

Some of this weeks learning:
The children have been exploring water safety this week. We
have explored how we can stay safe in the water and also what the flags mean
that we see at a lifeguarded beach!
In outdoor learning this week we had the best time searching
for things of different colour. Mrs Lyden made us some amazing colour
magnifying glasses.
In maths we have been exploring mapping with positional
language. The children have been excelling in their maths and the mathematical
sentences they have been using have made the adults in class so proud.
We have also made star fish using cheerios, which was so
much fun, made ice creams , and so much more!
What a great sunny week!
Wishing you a wonderful weekend

Hello Everyone!
What a fantastic week!
We began on Monday, by meeting the children who will be in Reception in September.
On Tuesday we had a wonderful trip to Looe Island. On the island, we spotted seals, Canadian geese, cormorants, and several species of butterflies. We took time to stop at several points and look at the amazing views. We finished on the beach, where we ate lunch and created some art work in the sand, and on paper. When returning to Looe, we found out all about the different equipment and boats that are used by the RNLI, and also visited the Guildhall Museum to find out about what Looe and Polperro was like hundreds of years ago.
Throughout the rest of the week, we have been busy writing poems about caves, inventing our own islands, and singing songs about the sea.
Thank you so much, to those of you who joined us on Tuesday. It was lovely to have you with us.

Pelynt Primary Sports
Personality of the Year 2025
This
year, choosing the Pelynt SPOTY found us reaching a unanimous conclusion.
In its inauguration last year, we decided that we would look for not only
sporting excellence, but all-round attributes including sportsmanship,
teamwork, being an encouraging yet critical friend. In considering the
various traits that make a great 'Pelynt' sportsperson we are pleased to be
recognising someone who has all of these traits as well as being supremely
talented in sport both in and outside of school. This year she qualified and
represented the school at the Cornwall cross county finals, she is an excellent
footballer playing for our school team and also part of the Girls elite
Plymouth Argyle Team outside of school. This year's Pelynt Academy Sports
Personality of the Year Award goes to Elsa
Lee.

Sports Day
A super enjoyable sports day took place this week in rather
hot conditions! Thank you to all of the parents and carers who were able to
attend and cheer the children on. As always, the children were magnificent,
demonstrating excellent sportsmanship. The Blue team were the eventual winner
in a close fought contest, winning by only 6 points! A huge thank you to Mr
Knight for organising the event.

A Week of Adventure and Sunshine at Blisland Primary School
What an action-packed and joyful week we've had at Blisland Primary School! With the summer sun finally shining down, our pupils have been busy creating memories, challenging themselves, and enjoying time together in and out of the classroom.
The highlight of the week for both Nessa and Kensa Classes was undoubtedly our whole-school beach day on Wednesday. We travelled to the beautiful Daymer Bay and spent the entire day enjoying the sand, sea, and sunshine. The children played a wide range of beach sports, including cricket, football, tag rugby, bowls, and even golf. In between games, they explored the tide line, collected shells, and built some truly impressive sandcastles.
Lunchtime was a real treat thanks to Mr Smith and the staff team, who fired up the BBQ and prepared a beach feast. With hot dogs, burgers, bacon rolls, and plenty of fresh fruit, there was something for everyone to enjoy. It was fantastic to see all the children playing together, supporting one another, and making the most of the glorious weather. The atmosphere was full of laughter, fun, and friendship-a true celebration of our school spirit.
Earlier in the week, Nessa Class had two exciting adventures of their own. On Monday, they visited the Tide Climbing Centre, where they were introduced to the fundamentals of indoor climbing and bouldering. Many children pushed themselves out of their comfort zones and conquered challenging routes, showing bravery, resilience, and determination. The staff at the centre were incredibly supportive, and the children left feeling proud of what they had achieved.
Then on Tuesday, it was time for some high-energy fun at Big Dunk's Laser Tag. Over two hours, the children played a variety of fast-paced games that required teamwork, strategy, and lots of enthusiasm. It was wonderful to see their competitive spirit balanced with kindness and support for their teammates. Everyone had a blast, and it's safe to say the bus ride home was a quiet one!
As if that wasn't enough, we're now gearing up for another big event-our Sports Day, which takes place this Friday. Pupils have been practising hard and showing great sportsmanship in their PE lessons, and we're all looking forward to a day of friendly competition, cheering, and celebration.
This week has been a brilliant example of the joy, adventure, and sense of community that makes Blisland such a special place to learn and grow. A big thank you to all staff, volunteers, and parents for helping to make it all happen!
Nursery
This week we've been setting sail on a nautical adventure! Our little explorers have been busy diving into all things under the sea and pirate-themed.
We made magical mermaids with sparkles and shells.
Built our boats and tested to see if they would float
Created pirate necklaces fit for a captain
Mixed up mysterious pirate potions full of colour and fizz!
The imagination has been flowing like the tide, and the children have loved every splashy second of it. We're so proud of their creativity and curiosity-what a week of fun and discovery!

Here's a
snapshot of the exciting learning that has taken place in our Year 3 and 4
classes this week:
English:
Exploring Non-Chronological Reports
We have
embarked on our new unit focusing on non-chronological reports. The children
have been identifying key features such as clear headings, introductory
paragraphs, subheadings, and the use of formal, third-person language. They
have also been practicing how to group information into paragraphs and support
their points with relevant details and examples.
Mathematics:
Fractions and Time
In Year
3, we concluded our work on fractions, reinforcing our understanding of unit
and non-unit fractions. We then transitioned into exploring time, learning to
read both analogue and digital clocks, including those with Roman numerals.
Year 4
students built upon this by delving into 24-hour time formats, enhancing their
ability to read, write, and compare times across different clock systems.
Geography:
The Journey of a Cocoa Bean
Our
geography lessons took us on a journey tracing the path of a cocoa bean from
farm to chocolate bar. We examined the stages of cocoa production, the
challenges faced by cocoa farmers, and the environmental impacts of cocoa
farming. This study linked back to our previous discussions on Fair Trade,
highlighting the importance of ethical consumer choices.
Science:
Understanding the Digestive System
In
science, we explored the human digestive system, learning about the roles of
the mouth, oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and rectum. The
children discovered how each part contributes to the digestion and absorption
of nutrients.
Religious
Education: Significant Christian Figures
Our RE
sessions focused on important figures in Christianity and the concept of
sacrifice. We discussed individuals such as Abraham, Moses, Ruth, and Mary,
exploring how their actions and sacrifices have influenced Christian teachings
and values.
Physical
Education: Football Skills Development
In PE,
the children have been honing their football skills, particularly dribbling and
ball control. Through various drills and activities, they practiced maintaining
possession, changing direction, and improving coordination on the field.
Art: Inspired
by Georgia O'Keeffe
Our art
lessons were inspired by the works of Georgia O'Keeffe. The students studied
her technique of zooming in on flowers to create abstract pieces. They then
applied this approach to their own artwork, focusing on details and
experimenting with colour and form.
Reading
at Home
We kindly
encourage continued reading at home, as it significantly enhances learning
across all subjects and fosters a love for literature. We always enjoy hearing
about your children's current favourite books!
Thank you
for your ongoing support.
