Sustainability at Bridge Schools
At Bridge Schools, sustainability is at the heart of our vision for the future. We are committed to empowering our pupils, staff, and communities to take meaningful action to protect our planet. Through education, collaboration, and practical action, we aim to nurture environmentally responsible citizens who understand their role in creating a more sustainable world.
Our Commitment
We are proud to have both a Trust-wide Climate Action Plan as well as individual Climate Action Plans for each of our schools. These plans ensure a consistent, strategic approach across our Trust, while allowing each school to respond to its own unique environment and community.
Our approach is guided by five key areas, in line with national expectations for climate action in education:
We are working to reduce our carbon footprint by improving energy efficiency, exploring sustainable energy sources, and promoting environmentally responsible practices across our sites. From reducing energy use in buildings to encouraging sustainable travel, we are committed to lowering emissions across the Trust.
We recognise the importance of preparing for the impacts of climate change. Our schools are developing strategies to ensure our environments remain safe, resilient, and adaptable in the face of changing weather patterns and environmental challenges.
Protecting and enhancing the natural environment is a priority for Bridge Schools. Many of our schools are actively developing green spaces, wildlife areas, and outdoor learning environments. Some work closely with nature parks, giving children direct opportunities to connect with and care for the natural world.
Sustainability is embedded throughout our curriculum. We are equipping pupils with the knowledge, skills, and values they need to understand environmental issues and take positive action. Our aim is to prepare children for a future in which sustainability will play a central role.
We believe that collaboration is key to effective climate action. Our schools engage with a range of partners, including participation in sustainability initiatives with the Diocese of Truro, alongside broader community projects and local organisations.
Pupil Voice and Leadership
Children are at the centre of our sustainability work. Every one of our schools has Eco Champions who play a vital role in leading initiatives, raising awareness, and driving change within their communities.
Each year, pupils from across the Trust come together for our Eco Summit—a powerful opportunity for collaboration, idea-sharing, and leadership development. These gatherings empower our young people to have a voice, take action, and inspire others.
Working Together for a Sustainable Future
Sustainability at Bridge Schools is not a single initiative—it is a shared commitment that runs through everything we do. By working together across our Trust, engaging with our communities, and empowering our pupils, we are building a culture of environmental responsibility that will have a lasting impact.
