Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium at Bridge Schools

At Bridge Schools, we are committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background or starting point. The effective use of Pupil Premium funding is a key part of our work to promote equity, raise attainment, and remove barriers to learning.

Our Commitment

We believe that all children deserve access to a high-quality education, rich experiences, and strong support. Through our Pupil Premium strategies, we work to ensure that disadvantaged pupils:

  • Achieve well academically
  • Feel confident and included
  • Have access to wider opportunities and enrichment
  • Are fully supported in their personal and social development

Our approach is rooted in high expectations, inclusion, and a strong moral purpose.

What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the government to support pupils who may face barriers to their learning, including those who:

  • Are eligible for free school meals (FSM)
  • Have been eligible for FSM in the past six years
  • Are looked after or previously looked after children
  • Have parents serving in the armed forces

How We Use Pupil Premium

Across Bridge Schools, Pupil Premium funding is used strategically to address the specific needs of our pupils. While individual schools tailor their approaches to their communities, our work is underpinned by shared Trust priorities.

We focus on:

1. High-Quality Teaching

The most important factor in improving outcomes is excellent teaching. We invest in:

  • High-quality professional development for staff
  • Evidence-informed teaching strategies
  • Adaptive teaching to meet the needs of all learners

2. Targeted Academic Support

We provide additional support to help pupils keep up and catch up where needed, including:

  • Small group interventions
  • One-to-one support
  • Structured programmes to develop key skills in reading, writing, and mathematics

3. Wider Strategies

We recognise that barriers to learning are not only academic. We also invest in:

  • Attendance and engagement support
  • Social, emotional, and mental health provision
  • Access to enrichment opportunities, trips, and extracurricular activities
  • Support for family wellbeing and guidance

Removing Barriers to Learning

Each of our schools carefully identifies the barriers faced by their Pupil Premium pupils and develops targeted strategies to overcome them. These may include:

  • Gaps in prior learning
  • Limited access to resources or wider experiences
  • Lower confidence or self-belief
  • Attendance challenges
  • Social and emotional needs

By addressing these barriers, we ensure that all pupils are supported to thrive.

A Focus on Outcomes

We are committed to ensuring that Pupil Premium funding has a measurable impact. Our schools:

  • Regularly review and evaluate the effectiveness of their strategies
  • Use data and evidence to refine their approach
  • Hold high expectations for attainment and progress
  • Report transparently on the impact of funding

Working in Partnership

We recognise the importance of strong relationships with families. We work closely with parents and carers to ensure that support is joined-up, responsive, and centred on each child’s needs.

Equity and Aspiration

At Bridge Schools, Pupil Premium is not just about support—it is about opportunity, aspiration, and achievement.

We are dedicated to ensuring that all pupils leave our schools with:

  • Strong academic foundations
  • Confidence and resilience
  • A sense of belonging and self-worth

The ambition to succeed in the next stage of their education
