Learning in a Bridge School

Learning at Bridge Schools

At Bridge Schools, we are committed to delivering high-quality teaching and learning that inspires, challenges, and empowers every child. Our approach helps ensure that children become independent, reflective, and resilient learners, equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to succeed both now and in the future.

We believe that exceptional education is achieved through the combined strength of engaged pupils, skilled teachers, and purposeful leadership.

Our Approach

Across our Trust, teaching and learning are underpinned by:

  • High expectations for all
  • A broad, balanced, and ambitious curriculum
  • Inclusive and adaptive teaching
  • Evidence-informed practice
  • A strong focus on metacognition and self-regulation
  • Continuous reflection and improvement

We place equal importance on what children learn and how they learn.

Curriculum

At Bridge Schools, we recognise that every school serves a unique community. We therefore enable our schools to develop curriculums that reflect the needs, context, and strengths of their cohorts, whilst maintaining strong consistency and progression across the Trust.

A key feature of our approach is the use of Bridge Schools Progress Ladders for each subject. These:

  • Clearly map out the knowledge, skills, and concepts pupils need to learn
  • Ensure learning is sequenced carefully and builds over time
  • Support teachers in identifying and planning for key milestones in learning
  • Enable pupils to make strong, sustained progress as they move through their education
  • Provide clarity and consistency across all schools in the Trust

This balance of autonomy and shared structure ensures that our curriculum is both locally relevant and academically rigorous, enabling all pupils to reach their full potential.

Bridge Children

At the heart of our approach are our Bridge Children - learners who actively take ownership of their education and embody our values.

Our children:

  • Can be their own teacher, taking responsibility for their learning
  • Can articulate what they are learning and why
  • Can explain the strategies they use to learn
  • Refer to learner qualities when discussing their work
  • Can clearly identify their next steps in learning
  • Use a range of self-regulation strategies
  • Are assessment-capable, understanding their progress
  • Seek challenge and show resilience
  • Can set and work towards mastery goals
  • Ask questions and think deeply
  • View errors as opportunities for growth and are comfortable asking for help
  • Support the learning of others
  • Know what to do when they don’t know what to do
  • Actively seek and respond to feedback
  • Demonstrate strong metacognitive skills (planning, memory, problem solving, critical and abstract thinking)
  • Can influence the pace and content of lessons
  • Take ownership of how they learn

Bridge Teaching Staff

Our teachers are passionate professionals who are committed to continual growth and delivering the very best for every child.

Bridge teaching staff:
