Welcome to the Year One page where you will find out about the great things taking place in our classes.
Home Learning
Each child has a Phonics folder that is included within their reading packet. This folder has key information about Phonics along with grapheme charts and tricky words. Each week, the children will be sent home with Phonics learning, in addition to regular reading.
Each half-term your child will receive an optional Home Learning Grid linking to our Wider Curriculum Topics. Children can choose from this grid as and when they wish. This work may be recorded in a variety of ways, including photos or films that can be emailed to the class teacher. Wider Curriculum homework will be shared and celebrated in class.
Reading
Throughout the school, we emphasise developing a love of reading and books. From Reception to Year 6, reading should take place daily. Regular daily reading at home is so very important to help your child in becoming a fluent reader. We encourage parents to read and discuss literature with their children and believe that reading should be a shared experience where possible. We are happy for children to read their allocated reading book, their school library book or any other reading material.
In Year 1, reading books will be changed every Monday. We ask that adults at home note what they have read in their own reading record. Please read the information in your child's reading record about how you can support them best when reading at home. Please ensure that reading packets are kept in your child's book bag throughout the week.
PE
Our extended PE lesson is on a Thursday. Please ensure that your child wears their PE kit to school every Thursday.
This web page will be updated throughout the year with our fortnightly weekly news, termly curriculum maps and other useful information, so please do watch this space!
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Best wishes,
The Year One Team

Welcome back to all of our children and families for the new academic year, with a special welcome to all of our new children and their parents or carers.
In November, our school celebrates 40 years since its move from its old site in West Looe to its current beautiful site on East Looe hill.
To make this a year to remember, as well as welcoming all of our new pupils to school, we will be celebrating all things family. We will start the proceedings with our '40 Years of Looe Primary Academy' celebration event. An afternoon of fund-raising, song, music, performance, fun, food and games and stalls run by the children and a variety of local enterprises. Our fund-raising effort this year is to provide new significant play equipment for both or our playgrounds. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity and promise of funding from some of our local organisations and with grants as well as money already raised, we are well on the way to more than £20,000 to support this project already. This event is open to all of our local community and all are very welcome - we pray for good weather!
Our aim this year is also to provide more and more opportunities for parents and families to join us at school to have fun and to learn together. Towards the end of the Autumn Term we will begin to provide a number of learning opportunities for parents, both with and without their children and we hope that we will be able to welcome more and more people to join us in our learning and activities throughout the year. A lot of these activities will be in partnership with local providers and the local authority, so please do join us as often as you can.
We cannot wait to throw open our doors to all who wish to join us as we mark this special time for this amazing school. We are a happy bunch - why not come and see for yourself?

What a busy Summer it has been at Brunel Primary and Nursery Academy!
A huge thank you to the Bridge Trust, our caretaker Mr. Stephens, the cleaning team and members of the school staff who have been working incredibly hard over the Summer holidays to get our school ready for the new academic year.
Our school building and hall have both been painted, there are new carpets in 4 of our classrooms and the grass bank on Callington Road has been cut which hugely improves the aesthetics of our school.
All that's missing now is our wonderful school community who we can't wait to see back at Brunel on Wednesday 4th September.
Have a great last few days of the Summer holidays; we can't wait to see you all!

I am deeply honoured to introduce myself as the new Headteacher of Brunel Primary Academy.
It is a privilege to follow in the footsteps of Mrs. Cooper, whose superb leadership has set a high standard for our school. I am committed to building upon the success we have already achieved, ensuring that our school continues to thrive and excel.
I believe that a school should be a happy, caring, respectful and hardworking environment where all staff members use their skills to help the children recognise their true potential and talents. At Brunel Primary Academy, we will strive to create an atmosphere where every child feels valued and inspired to achieve their best.To achieve this, I will work closely with our children, parents, staff, and governors to ensure that each of us 'Seize the day' to achieve the best possible outcomes for our entire school community. Collaboration and open communication will be at the heart of my approach, as I believe that together, we can achieve great things.
A bit about myself: I was born and bred in Saltash and have dedicated 22 years of my career to teaching in various primary schools. Additionally, I have gained extensive experience working for the local authority, providing school-to-school support. This background has given me a deep understanding of the educational landscape and the tools to foster a thriving school environment.
As a parent myself, I truly value the opinions and concerns of parents and carers. Your insights are invaluable, and I encourage you to share any queries or concerns with me. I am here to support you and your child’s learning and school life in any way I can.
Together, we can continue to take the school forward and make Brunel Primary Academy the best it can be.
Thank you for your commitment and support of our school. I look forward to meeting the whole school community very soon and embarking on this exciting journey together. I would like to invite you all to a Meet the Headteacher Coffee morning on Thursday 5th September at 9am where I hope to meet you all personally. In addition, I will be popping into all of the Meet the Teacher meetings which will be taking place across the first two weeks of term.
Warmest regards,
Mr. D. Woolner

Welcome to our Nursery blog ...
In our spacious, inviting nursery, we
work hard to offer a nurturing and supportive learning environment for the
children to thrive and grow. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage
Curriculum, emphasising the characteristics of effective learning.
This approach fosters a love of
learning and provides challenges linked closely to developmentally age-appropriate
experience. We strive to create an environment where the children feel
confident exploring and discovering new things. We have weekly forest school
activities and constant access to a large, safe outdoor space and an all-weather
area. Our excellent cook prepares all meals daily on-site.
As a Nursery, we understand that all
children are unique and understand the importance of following their individual
interests.
We are set just outside the beautiful
village of Blisland, 10 mins from Bodmin town centre.
As a smaller setting, we can only
offer ten places per year group, which ensures a very high level of interaction
with adults and quality education for your child while they are with us. We are
very family-oriented and have strong community connections.
We can offer places to children from
the age 2yrs and offer 3yrs funding and 30-hour funding; more information can
be found here: www.gov.uk/30-hours-free-childcare
Morning sessions are from 8.50 am - 12
cost £16.80
Lunch is available from 12-1 pm at £5.60
plus meal cost or a home-packed lunch.
The afternoon session would be from
12-3 pm at £ 16.80 plus meal cost or home-packed lunch.
All day session 8.50 am - 3 pm £33.60
plus the meal or home-packed lunch.
We are offering a fourth session free
if you pay for 3. It can be just mornings or a full day. Your equivalent 4th session would be free,
saving a max of £33.60
We are very flexible with hours and
days, so please feel free to ring for more information.
We can offer after-school care from
3.15 - 4.15 pm for £5.00, including snacks.
We also run a parent and toddler group,
' Twiglets,' on Wednesday mornings from 9 to 11 a.m. You can come along to stay and play, meet new people, have a coffee, and get a feel for what we are all about; this runs weekly in term time and is free. Bump to 4yrs. Weekly information is also
available on our Twiglets Facebook page.
Following our nursery blog, which we
hope to publish weekly, will allow us to inform you through words and pictures
how we promote your child’s learning in the nursery. It is also a great way for
you to discuss with your child at home what they have been doing each week.
Kind regards,
Julie Pearce and the Storytellers
team.
