We are now truly fully immersed into the second half of the summer tern. The Year 1 children have been assessed on their knowledge of phonics and the Year 4 on their knowledge of multiplication tables. If you are a parent of a child in these classes you will be told how they got on in the very near future.
On Thursday night we held our annual art exhibition in the hall in the Infant and Nursery school. It was really well attended and we had some lovely comments from families about the quality of the art work. Well done to all of the pupils and thank you to the staff for helping them to achieve such high-quality results. Thank you to Mr Day who played his keyboard some brilliantly at the event and to Mrs Hannaford who ran the craft table on the night. Last, but not least, a huge thank you to Mrs Wright, who organised the event and displayed all of the art work and to Mr Wright who ran the bar and helped to put up the display boards. We made just over £200, which will be used to buy materials for both schools to support the development of the art curriculum.
A reminder that next week is sport's week. You will have received a letter from Mrs Hannaford detailing what is happening each day. The main event is the traditional sport's day next Friday (20th June) Parents are invited top come to watch and support their children , joining us for a family picnic lunch. Year 6 will be running games and selling various items in order to raise funds for their end of term treats so please bring some extra pennies or even pounds to support them!
The school choir will be opening the St. Ann's Chapel fete tomorrow (14th June ) at 12.00 noon. It would be lovely to see as many of you as possible there. We also have an awesome adult and child's tombola thanks to your generosity on the mufti day last week- thank you. We will also be selling toys and books. I hope to see you there! Have a great weekend.

We have finished exploring space this week with the children finishing differnt craft and creating new ones. This week they have enjoyed making sponge/handprint rockets and painting and decorating their own telescopes to look at the stars.
We have been practicing cutting skills and the children have had fun playing with cardboard boxes and pretending to go to space in their rockets.
These boxes came in especially useful during a phonics activity where the children plpayed a game of "voices in space" where they created different voice sounds to go with different alien characters.
Also during phonics this week, we have explored initial sounds of different space words and the children have joined in with a body percussion activitiy routine.
At story time we have read "Zoom!", "On the moon" and "Rocketmole".
In maths we have continued to compare and sort collections of different objects and materials and counted objects of interest.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

It’s been another exciting week in Lantic class. Here are
just some of the things we’ve been doing:
English: We’ve been writing some wonderful stories based
on Where the Wild Things Are and they are amazing but more about that next
week. We’ve had a lot of fun along the way because we set them in Saltash and
we’ve focused on using some great descriptive language with interesting
adjectives.
Maths: We’re coming to the end of our topic on
fractions in Y2 and Y1 and next we’ll be looking at Position and Direction, so
it’ll be all about movement and turns.
Science: Our Plant topic is proving to be a great success
and we’ve worked hard to improve our outdoor space by making a beautiful flower
and vegetable garden. This week we’ll be sending our sunflowers and cucumbers
home for you to plant so that you may take part in our competition to see who
can grow the tallest sunflower or the largest cucumber. We can plant them at school
if you prefer – just let me know!
Geography: This half term’s theme is ‘What’s it like
to live In Shanghai?’, so we’ve been thinking about what we’d like to find out.
We’ll keep you posted.
PE: It’s Athletics now so we’re practising hard for
Sports day.
Barnardos Visit: On Thursday, the Y2 children had a
workshop all about ‘Healthy Relationships’ which was really thought-provoking.
Mayor’s Assembly: We were so lucky on Monday to have
a visit from Saltash’s new Mayor – Councillor Rachel Bullock, who used to be a
pupil at our school and told us all about the Mayor Choosing Ceremony this
Friday 13th (Guildhall 7.10pm). I’m hoping to see some of you there.

Hello Everyone,
As you can see from the picture, we have been continuing to enjoy our ‘Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ stories. This week we have been writing postcards and descriptions of settings. We have also painted a lighthouse for our role play area, and used a paint program on the iPads to draw the story setting.
As part of our enquiry question; ‘What does Cornwall mean to me?’ we have been comparing modern lifeboats with the lifeboat that Grace Darling used in her rescue. Look out for a letter next week, which will give details of a class trip on 1st July, to Looe island.
Well done to our Year one children, who completed their phonics test this week. They all showed such perseverance and a positive attitude and we are really proud. Well done everyone!
This week, we also welcome Mrs Bates, who will be helping us every morning in Penhallow, while Miss Cullingford is away on maternity leave.
Have a lovely weekend!

This tremendous bunch of boys have worked endlessly, particularly over the last few months, in preparation for SATs.
During SATs week, the boys arrived at 8am for breakfast and revision before sitting their test each day. They remained focused and determined throughout the week so it was only right to celebrate in style.
On the Thursday afternoon, they visited Widegates park and on Friday, they had a day full of activities. In the morning, we welcomed our governor, Ian, in to do some construction work with the boys where they built a cross-shaped raised flower bed. This had been pre-planned and designed by the children during a spirituality day and I'm sure you can agree by the picture, that they did an amazing job. Our next step is to fill the flower bed with top soil and then starting planting flowers. At lunchtime, the boys were treated to a Ben's Plaice and they spent the afternoon doing forest school where they made their own fire to make s'mores.
A huge well-done boys. We are incredibly proud of you and demonstrated our school vision and values perfectly.

On the 8th May, for the 80th anniversary of VE Day, we dressed in red, white and blue and headed onto the field at lunchtime. We decorated with bunting and shared a picnic together to celebrate the end of World War II in Europe and remember all those who didn't get to see the end of the war.
This month, Year 5 have also been enjoying developing their striking and fielding skills in PE. Towards the end of the month, we have started learning about the continents: North and South America, mainly labelling their countries and key cities so far. But, we have also started looking at a Brazilian artist called Tarsila do Amaral and started to experiment with working in her style by mixing tints and shades, understanding and trying to draw objects in a surrealist way and composing Cornish-inspired landscapes in her style. These are in preparation for our Art exhibition next month!

RNLI visit
We had a visit from the RNLI for an assembly about being safe on our beaches. This knowledge is vital due to living so close to the beach and the lifeguards were very impressed with the knowledge the children had retained from the previous year. The understood what all the flags meant and could explain what to do if there was an emergency.
Music lessons
Both classes have starting receiving music lessons from the Cornwall Music Hub. KS2 have been learning the keyboard and it has been amazing to also see them demonstrate our values of perseverance whilst learning this new, tricky skill but also respect as they are responsible for packing away the equipment safely. EYFS and KS1 have been learning the recorder and they have been using their observational skills to understand, again, a tricky concept. We look forward to hearing the progress in the coming weeks.
VE day
We invited our families in to celebrate 80th anniversary of VE day. In the morning, the EYFS/Y1 children prepared the food for the afternoon street party. They were in charge of making sandwiches and a Victoria sponge cake and learning the skills of baking a cake. In the afternoon, we had a range of activities for the children to take part in. We had British flag making, kite making, clay medal creating whilst also using our construction skills to make a WW2 aircraft. On the field we had British games of quoits, archery and croquet. We finished with sitting down for our street party. It was a wonderful event and a time to celebrate but also reflect that key event in history.

Two teams from Duloe had a very early start on Thursday and travelled to Marjons University for the Plymouth Lions Hockey Festival.
The children all played superbly with Duloe B making it to the quarter finals and Duloe A the semi finals. As always I am blown away with the sportsmanship and how the children conduct themselves when we partake in these events.
Mr Hodgins also made us proud by scoring a goal in the 'Goal or No Goal' game in the afternoon - Well done Mr Hodgins!

What a great effort from Lantic class at the Saltash Regatta parade on Saturday!
Despite the gloomy weather and the threat of heavy showers, our class were very well represented in the parade.
They turned up in the brightest colours to reflect this year's theme 'All Things Bright and beautiful, one of our Y1 girls even had a fabulous rainbow plait, which was greatly admired.
Waving our streamers and proudly carrying the Brunel Primary & Nursery Academy flag and banner, we paraded all the way down Fore Street and Lower Fore Street to Jubilee Green. We even managed to collect another member of Lantic class on the way.
I know that it takes a lot of organise to come to a school event on a weekend, particularly one with a dreadful weather forecast, so huge thanks to all the children and families who came.

The first week, a short week, but an action-packed week! This is the only way I can describe learning in Class 2 this past week.
In Literacy, we started by completing our neat copies of the information texts. We have some seriously brilliant pieces of work and can't wait to show them to you all. Then, we started our new unit of work. This half term, we are learning all about persuasive language. We will be using this to write persuasive letters later in the term.
In Maths, Year 1s continued learning more about multiplication and division by exploring arrays and dividing by sharing. In the meantime, Year 2s have continued exploring fractions.
This half term, in Science, we continue our investigation into habitats. This week, we have started our journey into the mini world of microhabitats. We spend most of Monday afternoon in our forest school area, exploring the different microhabitats we could find there. It was quite an exciting afternoon of turning over logs and stones, and exploring hidden corners of the area to find some amazing hidden worlds. We also found a variety of minibeasts in these miniworlds.
In DT, we started our new unit on cooking and nutrition. This week, we explored the difference between fruits and vegetables with Mrs Lane. We will continue learning more about how they are grown and learn how to prep them. We are really looking forward to using some of these fruits to make our own smoothies later in the term!
In Geography, we have started a new unit by the end of which we hope to answer the question: What is it like to live by the coast? We will be exploring the seas and oceans surrounding the UK, exploring the coastal landscape and diving deeper into the physical features of the Jurassic Coast.
On the left is a small snapshot of what we have been learning in Music this term. Last half term, we began exploring Pitch and Melody with Mrs Lane. We have all had fantastic fun learning about octobass and piccolo, and using a variety of instruments. We also learned to describe pitch and timbre.
This week, we put our skills to the test by writing graphic notations and creating voice to match them. Needless to say, Mrs Lane is super proud of what they have achieved so far.
Mrs Lane wrote, "The children have been using graphic notation and their voices to explore pitch and create a piece of vocal music - they all worked so well yesterday and very proudly shared their compositions - they have really grown in confidence which is lovely!"
PLEASE NOTE, SOME KEY DATES HAVE CHANGED FOR THIS HALF TERM.
TUESDAY: PE and Fun Colour Run
FRIDAY: Library
