Blisland Primary Academy   Ahoy from Storytellers !

Posted 22/07/2025
by Julie Pearce

Ahoy there, mateys! We have ended the year at Storytellers with a rip-roaring pirate adventure that would make even Captain Jack jealous! The little buccaneers played a raucous round of pass the parcel, bounced like jellyfish on the bouncy castle, and dared to walk the wobbly plank with fearless giggles. They splashed and slipped through our splishy-splashy water fountain like mischievous mermaids, stirred up some slimy seaweed soup in the messy play zone, and feasted like true pirates at our epic banquet. The crowning glory? A magnificent fruit ship fit for a captain, crafted by our magical cook.

We are incredibly proud of our Storytellers family - the laughter, learning, and love have made this year truly unforgettable. We can't wait to see what magical adventures next year will bring!

Have a wonderful summer! .

End of Year

It has been another excellent year for our little school. This year, we have again benefitted from the generosity of our local community with funding for water sports and swimming lessons in addition to funding for music and it was lovely to share and showcase the children's learning with families, benefactors and the wider community at our summer concert last week.

Beyond the classroom, the curriculum has been enriched with a fantastic range of trips and activities. In addition to the many specific learning trips, we took Tregeagle class to the theatre and Canute class to Lappa Valley, thanks to the generous fundraising efforts of our school community and we have already planned a trip to Hall for Cornwall to watch the Christmas Pantomime Aladdin in December thanks to the money raised at our summer concert.

On Friday, we said goodbye to our Year 6s in the Leaver's Assembly. These occasions are often sad and emotional; however, they are primarily a time for joy and celebration as we reflect on the journey of our pupils while at Polruan school. Our Year 6s have made us laugh aloud with quirky observations of life in the classroom, inspired our thinking and learning but most of all they have made us proud! They have been outstanding role models for our younger pupils, demonstrating our core values of respect, resilience, tolerance, understanding and responsibility. They have made fantastic academic progress and achieved well in all their SATs. They have shown ambition, determination and a want to succeed and for that they deserve recognition. They are a credit to themselves, their families and our school and I am certain they will continue to flourish and thrive at secondary school.

We finished the year with flurry of activities: ARENA Sports Day, visit from Royal Cornwall Farming, adding the finishing touches to our sculpture for the village competition and of course our traditional water fights and class parties.

In September, the children return to school on THURSDAY 4th. We will continue with our current arrangements of all children entering the school via the top gates which will be opened at 8:40. The children will have the opportunity to play with friends until the bell at 8:45am. Class teachers will then escort the children to their classrooms, ready for the start of the day.

We are pleased with the close ties between parents and school and thank you all for the strong support you have provided across the year and we look forward to continuing to work closely with the very special community Polruan is. We have lots of exciting plans for the next academic year which we will share on our return in September.

I hope you can all enjoy a well-earned break this summer in our lovely corner of Cornwall.
On behalf of all the staff,
Jane Wills

Wishing you all the best Lantic Class...
'Oh please don't go, we love you so!'

So, we've arrived at the last day of term and indeed the school year, which means  it's time to bid goodbye to Lantic class and wish you all a very happy Summer holiday

This term has been full of thrills and excitement, including a Forest School evening, complete with a campfire and a science trip to Tincombe Nature Reserve. We presented our class assembly all about the Wild Things and were so pleased to show you all our lovely outdoor classroom with a vegetable patch and beautiful flower beds.

We also celebrated the talent at Brunel Primary with several events including Sports day, Music of the Afternoon and of course this week's Brunel's Got Talent.

We've enjoyed playing on our brand new playground equipment and our recent introduction to the Builders' Yard, which has endless opportunities for exploration and creativity..

However, that's just a small part of Lantic's journey, for the class have also worked incredibly hard in all areas of the curriculum, which was so apparent in the vast numbers of books they've been bringing home!

So, now's the time to reflect on all the fun, friendship and naturally lots of laughter along the way - it's been great.

Thank you so much for all your support, particularly this term.

With love from the Lantic team xxx

Strikes, Smiles, and Shared Memories - Lansallos Class Bowling Trip

Our Year 6 children from Lansallos Class had a fantastic time last week on their bowling trip! They started off in the arcade, enjoying everything from racing games to claw machines and earning plenty of tokens along the way. There was something for everyone! After lots of fun in the arcade, they played a lively game of bowling, followed by trying their hand at pool. It was a well-deserved treat and a wonderful way to make lasting memories together.

Talland Class Trip

This half-term, Talland Class have been diving into the magical world of How to Train Your Dragon to inspire their writing. To round off this exciting unit, they enjoyed a special trip to the cinema in Plymouth to watch the latest film in the series.

The children were a credit to the school - their behaviour was exemplary and even drew praise from members of the public.

Well done, Talland Class - a fantastic way to end a fun-filled topic!

Phonics videos for the Summer

Below are the entire set of lessons for RWI sets 1 and 2. Each video teaches a sound as indicated on the left of the page. The pinny time lessons are to practice recalling the sounds at speed. There are plenty to be getting on with and should be completed in order. If your child has completed learning set 1 sounds then start with Set 1 pinny time to see how much they remember. They then move onto Set 2. If your child is still leanring Set 1 sounds then you can start at 'M' or complete some of the set 1 pinny time videos to see which sounds they are not sure of and start there. Enjoy.

Lantic Update 18.7.25

Well, it's the last full week in Lantic class and it's been such a busy one.

Here are just a few of our highlights:

PE was fun on Monday, we tried out some new athletics techniques including, javelin, shuttle relay and hurdles.

On Tuesday, Mrs Williamson made a courgette cake for us using our home grown courgettes, not everyone wanted to try it but most of us found it delicious.

Sadly, Music of the Afternoon (MOTA 2025) on Wednesday wasn't possible on the field due to the weather, so we did it in the hall. Lantic class sang beautifully and we all felt very proud. Do check the recording out on social media.

On Thursday, we had a special visit to our Brunel Builders' Yard, where we built some amazing structures and had the best fun choosing the scrap items to make our own designs. We also had the heats for the Lantic class entry for Brunel's Got Talent and are delighted to announce our winners were: Emily and Liliana with their fabulous dance and April with her amazing karate moves.

They will be representing us on Monday 21st in the grand final.

Next Monday, Jane is going to kindly cook us some courgettes and beans from our vegetable patch. We shall try to encourage everyone to try them!

Also, on Friday, it was time to have another visit to see Miss Pentreath and spend the whole afternoon there in our new classroom,. We went home with all sorts of information about next year and we're really looking forward to it.

Have a lovely weekend, everyone.

Our final full week has come to an end, and what a week it has been!

This week we were excited to receive a letter from the King! Last half term, we wrote persuasive letters on plastic pollution to King Charles, and we couldn't believe we had a response. His majesty enjoyed reading our letters and was impressed by our passion for protecting Cornwall's beaches from pollution.

We painted our clay pilchards this week, thinking carefully about the colours we chose. These will be making their way home next week. In History, we have enjoyed learning about Polperro and explored diary extracts written by children from the 1850s. We learnt about their daily lives and compared this to the present day. We have also enjoyed our PSHE lessons this week, which have been very informative. Not to forget the fun we had on Tuesday making chocolate rocks!

In English, we have been busy writing our narrative inspired by the short film 'The Man on the Moon'. I have been blown away by the focus and determination of everyone, when writing their stories. Well done!

Congratulations to Brody, Dexter and Emma for being chosen as Landaviddy's People of the Week and a big well done to Anya who has now moved on to her Bronze club!

Polite Reminder: Please ensure that your child brings in their colour-banded and library books back in to school, ready to be returned over the summer holidays.

We hope you have a super weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday, for the final few days of school before the summer.

It has a been a busy but very emotional last full week in Chaipel. We had our Leaver's Assembly on Wednesday and it was a huge success. Everyone sang their hearts out and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. We finished off with a pool party, BBQ and a few games of Dodgeball: we all had a lovely time.

MATHS
Y5s have been recapping on their fractions knowledge - in preparation for their Y6 transition. Y6s have been tackling maths challenges, putting all of their known strategies and number fluency together to solve clues.

ENGLISH
We have written, edited and produced our final copy of our adaptation of the classic Wizard of Oz. It really shows just how much the children have learnt over the years and they have produced work to be proud of.

In our Wider Curriculum, we completed our DT, creating gears and and a pulley system and finished our Orwell Art Project, creating some beautiful cards for us to sell at our exhibition in the Autumn.

On Friday, Y5/6 completed their fundraising marathon for Cornwall and Plymouth Cancer charity. They had the option to cycle, run, walk or scooter their mile and they absolutely smashed it! I will let you know our total funds raised when I get all of the monies in!

POLITE REMINDERS
Our Summer Fayre is on Monday from 2pm. Please come along and join us for tea, cake and plenty of fun!

Please can you check that your child has brought in their colour-banded book and any library books back in to school.

17.7.25

As we end our final full week in Years 3 and 4, we certainly haven't slowed down!

On Monday, Daymer enjoyed their 'End of Project' party at St Anne's, with heaps of food and smiles all round!

We were also treated to the Brunel's Got Talent auditions - well done to those who have made it through to the Finals next Monday!

On Tuesday, we enjoyed the Year 6 Leavers Assembly and wow! What a great show it was!

On Wednesday, it was Music of the Afternoon! It was sadly rained off but here's a video to enjoy of the performances in the hall! Exceptional talent all round, I'm sure you'll agree!

On Thursday, we had our class reward time at Longstone Park - that was great fun!

And on Friday, we were not only in awe of some EGGS in Science but we were treated to some more transition time in our new class with our new teachers! Wow!

What a week! 2 more days til the summer...

w/e 10.7.25

We've had a wonderfully busy and productive week in Year 3 and 4 - even with the soaring temperatures!

The children have shown real resilience and maturity in coping with the heat, staying positive and focused in their learning.
Here's a snapshot of what we've been up to this week...

English - Non-Chronological Reports
In English, we've been diving into the world of non-chronological reports. The children have been learning to use generalisers such as most, some, and usually to make their writing more informative and formal. We've also been focusing on using clear subheadings to organise our ideas and are in the process of planning our own reports, which we're excited to begin writing next week.

Geography - Where Does Our Food Come From?
In Geography, we've been exploring the journey food takes to reach our plates. From tropical fruits to locally grown vegetables, we've discussed the different climates and countries that produce the food we eat, and the impact of food miles. It's been a great way to link our geography skills to everyday life!

Maths - It's Time to Tell the Time!
Year 3 pupils have been practising telling the time to the nearest five minutes, both on analogue and digital clocks. We've been using real-life contexts to help the children understand why time is such an important skill. Year 4s have been consolidating their time knowledge too - keep an eye out for time-related challenges at home!

Science, Computing & Online Safety
In Science, we've continued exploring teeth and digestion, while in Computing, we've had important discussions around online safety - understanding how to stay safe and responsible when using the internet and digital devices.

PE - Rounders in the Sun
Despite the heat, PE has been a highlight this week. We've been developing our skills in rounders, practising batting, fielding, and team strategy. The children showed great sportsmanship and determination - well done all!

Art - Abstract Flowers
Our stunning abstract flower art continues to blossom! The children have been inspired by famous artists and have created some truly beautiful pieces. Be sure to take a look at the photos - their creativity is really shining through!

Music, French & More
In Music, we've been rehearsing for music of the afternoon which takes place on Wednesday afternoon-we hope to see you all there! French lessons have included learning new vocabulary and simple conversations. We've also been weaving in PSHE and topic discussions throughout the week - it's been full of variety!

Transition Time
This week, we've had our class transition swaps, giving the children a chance to meet their new teachers and get a taste of what next year might look like - including the new Brunel Shed! It's been exciting and reassuring for the children, helping them feel confident about the changes ahead.

Coming Up - Brunel's Got Talent!
A quick reminder - on Monday, we'll be holding class auditions for Brunel's Got Talent! Children are encouraged to bring in any props or music they might need. We can't wait to see the range of talents in our class - from magic tricks to musical performances, it's always a joyful event.

Thank you, as always, for your support.
Please make sure your child continues to bring a water bottle and hat each day, especially while the warm weather lasts.

Have a lovely weekend!

w/e 3.7.25

Here's a snapshot of the exciting learning that has taken place in our Year 3 and 4 classes this week:

English: Exploring Non-Chronological Reports
We have embarked on our new unit focusing on non-chronological reports. The children have been identifying key features such as clear headings, introductory paragraphs, subheadings, and the use of formal, third-person language. They have also been practicing how to group information into paragraphs and support their points with relevant details and examples.

Mathematics: Fractions and Time
In Year 3, we concluded our work on fractions, reinforcing our understanding of unit and non-unit fractions. We then transitioned into exploring time, learning to read both analogue and digital clocks, including those with Roman numerals. Year 4 students built upon this by delving into 24-hour time formats, enhancing their ability to read, write, and compare times across different clock systems.

Geography: The Journey of a Cocoa Bean
Our geography lessons took us on a journey tracing the path of a cocoa bean from farm to chocolate bar. We examined the stages of cocoa production, the challenges faced by cocoa farmers, and the environmental impacts of cocoa farming. This study linked back to our previous discussions on Fair Trade, highlighting the importance of ethical consumer choices.

Science: Understanding the Digestive System
In science, we explored the human digestive system, learning about the roles of the mouth, oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and rectum. The children discovered how each part contributes to the digestion and absorption of nutrients.

Religious Education: Significant Christian Figures
Our RE sessions focused on important figures in Christianity and the concept of sacrifice. We discussed individuals such as Abraham, Moses, Ruth, and Mary, exploring how their actions and sacrifices have influenced Christian teachings and values.

Physical Education: Football Skills Development
In PE, the children have been honing their football skills, particularly dribbling and ball control. Through various drills and activities, they practiced maintaining possession, changing direction, and improving coordination on the field.

Art: Inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe
Our art lessons were inspired by the works of Georgia O'Keeffe. The students studied her technique of zooming in on flowers to create abstract pieces. They then applied this approach to their own artwork, focusing on details and experimenting with colour and form.

Reading at Home We kindly encourage continued reading at home, as it significantly enhances learning across all subjects and fosters a love for literature. We always enjoy hearing about your children's current favourite books!

Thank you for your ongoing support.

It's been another memorable week at Polperro School.

On Wednesday, we celebrated our wonderful Year 6 pupils in their emotional Leavers' Assembly. The children shared special memories and highlights from their time at Polperro School, bringing smiles, laughter, and a few tears(!) to everyone in the audience. The day ended on a high with a fantastic Leavers' Party.

Talland Class had an exciting trip to St Michael's Mount on Thursday, where they explored the setting for their Cormoran and the Giant Killer stories. The visit brought their learning to life and sparked some brilliant creative ideas.

Meanwhile, Landaviddy Class were thrilled to receive a reply from King Charles in response to the thoughtful letters they wrote about protecting our seas from pollution.

Next week is a short school week. We are looking forward to seeing you all on Monday (21st July) at the FOPS Summer Fete which starts at 2pm.

On Tuesday, school will finish for pupils at 1:30pm. Please collect your children from the main gate, whichever year group they are in, as we will be saying a special goodbye to Year 6.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Mrs Hillman

This is the final full week of the academic year! It seems like only yesterday, we were welcoming the children back in September! We have had a full final week to finish this term. Before we even got to school on Monday, we were celebrating our winning entries at the Liskeard show! You may have seen the art and crafts that we entered at the weekend, and we were delighted to bring home not one but two first-prize rosettes for the third year in a row! Congratulations to all the children! On Monday, the weather (mostly) played ball for our sports day. The children had a great time trying the different games and activities, finished with the tradition that is the Year 6 Round-School Run! Thank-you to everyone who was able to come and cheer the children on! Tuesday saw the whole school have a great day at Hidden Valley. The children loved the maze and the mansion and worked hard at solving the puzzles. Thank-you to the PTFA for funding the coach and keeping the cost of the trip down. Their support for activities and fund-raising is invaluable and we thank their members for their continued support of the school. We were all star-struck on Wednesday with Class 2's amazing performances of "I'm an 11-year-old - Get me out of here!" The children have worked tirelessly - learning lines, positions and the songs and it all came together for two brilliant performances. We have some understudies step in last-minute and were amazing. Thank-you to the children for their hard work and to everyone who supported with learning lines and costumes. I am still processing the video of the performance, but this will be available on request next week. Finally, this afternoon as you read this, the children will be enjoying the summer disco! An opportunity for them to celebrate their successes this year and look forward to the summer as well as, in some cases, the next steps on their journey to secondary school. A reminder that, along with the leaver's assembly for Year 6 on Monday, next week the children can be collected for the holiday on Tuesday at 1.30. Can you please let us know if you are unable to collect your children at this time. Have a fantastic weekend and we're looking forward to seeing the children on Monday for the final few days.

Tregantle Class Blog - End of Year Celebration!

We've made it to the end of the year - and what an incredible journey it's been! The children in Tregantle Class have truly amazed us with their hard work, resilience, and enthusiasm throughout the year. From exciting learning adventures to unforgettable moments of fun and friendship, the class has grown in confidence, knowledge, and kindness in every way possible. We couldn't be prouder of each and every child for their fantastic achievements this year. Whether it's mastering new skills in maths, exploring creative writing, diving into science investigations, or showing curiosity and care in every lesson - they've given it their all! To celebrate a brilliant year, we transformed our classroom into the Tregantle Cinema for a special afternoon treat! With the lights dimmed and the popcorn flowing, the children got cosy and enjoyed a showing of some much-loved Julia Donaldson classics. There were plenty of smiles, giggles, and even a few songs along the way - the perfect way to end a wonderful year together. A huge thank you to all the parents and carers for your continued support. We wish all our lovely Tregantle children a fantastic summer holiday - you've earned it!

Polperro Primary Academy   Week ending Friday 18th July

Hello Everyone!

Our final full week of the year, has again been filled with some exciting learning in Penhallow.

We have written some lovely stories in English, based on the story of Tiddler, by Julia Donaldson. We enjoyed looking back at our writing from the beginning of the year, and it was lovely for the children to see the progress that they have made throughout the year.

In maths this week, we have been learning about time. We used mini clocks to practice o'clock times, as well as finding 1 hour before and after. We enjoyed playing games to build on this learning too.

In RE, we continued to learn about special places. We learnt about different types of places of worship for people who follow different religions and beliefs, and we compared similarities and differences between these places.

We have also enjoyed singing songs about the sea, during our music lessons. Some of the songs have involved singing different parts for groups, as well as singing in unison.

Thank you all, for your support this year with your children's learning. We really appreciate the feeling of working with you, and look forward to seeing you next year.

From

The Penhallow Team

As we come to our final full week of the year, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your support. If you are moving on from WPA, we wish you all the very best for the future. If you are returning after the summer, we look forward to seeing you again in September for another full year of learning and enrichment. We may be approaching week 8 of this term, but energy levels have been (just about) high enough for a bumper week. We've had Transition Day; various Year 6 events; Year 5's brass performance this morning and still a summer fayre this afternoon..what a way to (nearly) end the year!

I would like to say a HUGE thank you to our wonderful staff team. They really do give above and beyond. We are all so lucky to have such a dedicated, hardworking and caring team. I wish them all a very restful and deserved break.

Finally, a special mention to our Year 6 children who are transitioning to secondary school. After a fantastic production earlier this week, as well as the mid-week dance-a-thon, raising over £2000, they still have the Prom this evening; leaver's trip on Monday; leaver's assembly on Tuesday and the final parade out of school. Year 6, you are more than ready for the next step and we wish you all the very best for Year 7. We know you will continue to shine and take up all the many opportunities that will come your way.

Hugs After School Bake Sale
Thank you and congratulations to Joe, from Year 5, for running the after school bake sale this week in support of The Hugs Foundation. You helped Joe raise a very impressive £166.50 for Hugs.

Congratulations Miss Lake/Mrs Bone
Yesterday the Year 1 team and children surprised Miss Lake with a pre-wedding extravaganza! We all send our very best wishes and congratulations to Miss Lake for her wedding during the summer break.

Become an MP for the Day
Please see below for a message from our MP, Ben Maguire.

I'm inviting young people across North Cornwall to take part in a new competition: MP for the Day.

The idea is simple - I want to hear what matters to them. Entrants can submit a short video (60 seconds or less) saying what they'd do if they were in charge for a day. Serious, bold, creative or funny - all ideas are welcome! I can't wait to hear what young people have to say!

With best wishes / Gans gorhemynadow a'n gwella,
